DADx - Fathers' Mental Health Campaigning - Wed 14 June 18:30

When Mark Williams first started discussing his experience of postnatal depression with the press in 2011 he was met with ridicule and scepticism. His claim that men could suffer from PND was laughed at and his masculinity questioned. Yet despite the public criticism, Mark continued to speak out about his personal struggle so others would not have to.

Fast forward 12 years and thankfully understanding and support of paternal mental health is improving. And as we approach International Fathers' Mental Health Day, (which Mark co-founded) we are delighted he can join us for a special DADx to discuss his experience of campaigning, what he thinks has changed since 2011 and what still needs to be done to support new dads and their families.

Annual Dads Survey

Last week we launched our survey and have been taken aback by the response. So far over 400 dads have responded telling us what life is like for them, how they are coping at home and work, and what they think would improve the lives of dads in Scotland. We are aiming to reach 1,000 dads by the end of June but we will need your help…

‘Fathers’ Book Launch

We loved the photographs from Eoin Carey new book 'Father' so much we used one to promote our 2023 Dads Survey.

Eoin's celebration of fathers sheds a touching light on paternal routine in Glasgow. The project looks at parenting from the point of view of fathers and seeks to create a visual vocabulary for male care. It shows fathers with their children in natural, domestic settings and captures the intimacy, stress, play and poetry of parenthood. It seeks to counter the perceived stereotypes that still remain of fathers being either heroes, incompetent or simply absent, and to show the importance of a father's role in their children's lives.
